Important Announcement: I-35 School Building Realignment

As we prepare and plan for 2024-25 and beyond, we will be realigning the grades within the elementary and secondary buildings. This decision was made with the best interests of our students in mind, as we factor in changes to the district’s finances, decreased student enrollment and staff departures.

Interstate 35 Elementary will now include grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. The Early Childhood programs (daycare and preschool) will also remain within the Elementary.

Meanwhile the Interstate 35 Secondary school will house 7th grade through 12 grade. The current programs, like work-based learning, will remain.

We understand that change can sometimes be met with questions and concerns. Therefore, we are committed to maintaining open lines of communication and transparency as we move through this transition. We encourage you to contact the building principal if you’d like to discuss anything during this time.

It is important to know that there won’t be any significant changes to the student experience with this change. For example - beginning in second grade, elementary students rotate between classrooms based on the subject being taught (known as departmentalization). 5th and 6th graders do this now in the Secondary and will continue to do so in the Elementary.

Roles & Responsibilities Changes
This change eliminates the assistant secondary principal position. As a result, responsibilities are shifting.

Mr. Weber will become a K-12 Dean of Students to manage student behavior district-wide. He will also continue in his current Activities Director role.

Other critical responsibilities including special education, 504s, at-risk students, English learners, and gifted and talented will be managed by a Student Services Director position. This consolidation of roles will enhance coordination and collaboration across various support services, to the benefit of our students and their families.

You can view the new organizational structure flowchart here.

Ultimately, these changes allow for cost-savings for the district while having a minimal impact on our students and their education.

Our primary goal remains steadfast—to provide a high-quality education that prepares our students for success in their academic endeavors and beyond.  Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
