On Thursday, December 7, Mrs. Kelley Dugger directed her 1st and 2nd grade music students in their concert inspired by the popular children’s book “The Day the Crayons Quit”. The 1st grade students began the evening singing a traditional folk song entitled “Apple Tree”, and then transitioned into the easily recognized “Purple People Eater” by Sheb Wooley. Following “Purple People Eater” they performed a choreographed sequence using gray scarves to the song “The Elephant” by Camille Saint- Saens. The students then ended with another traditional folk song titled “Five Green and Speckled Frogs”.
Once the 1st grade finished their final song, the 2nd grade students took to the stage and began with the familiar favorite “Yellow Submarine” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. They then sang “Nothing Rhymes with Orange” by David and Anne Ellsworth, “The Blues” by Teresa and Paul Jennings, and then ended their segment with choreographed movement using pink circles to the “The Pink Panther Theme” by Henry Mancini. The two grades rounded out the evening by singing “Rainbows Rock!” by David and Anne Ellsworth.
Throughout the evening, 1st and 2nd grade teachers Mrs. Julie Krull, Mrs. Ali Lyons, Mrs. Nicci Truman, Ms. Madison McCarty, Mrs. Kelcie Daniels, and Mrs. Lexi Crozier, along with support team Ms. Holly Finley, Mrs. Nicole Wilson, and Mrs. Kristen Harris appeared on stage in crayon costumes to read portions of the storybook “The Day the Crayons Quit” to help set the stage for the songs. Also contributing to the success of the evening was Art teacher Mrs. Amy Maiers who assisted with costumes and set design. Congratulations to Mrs. Dugger and all the students and staff who made the wonderful evening successful.
